State of the Polly: Aug 2026

It’s been a weird year for any number of reasons, but after not having anything new out in the first half, I’m set up to have a busy finish.

Wicked Little Miracles is out, a collection of stories from Exceptional Erotica, including my “Fuck the Rich.” (not technically new, but seems to be finding a wider audience)

Summer Teases 3 is out on August 3rd! This is my …4th? time appearing in an anthology with the Erotica Consortium/Erotic Celebrations team, and my first time coordinating one. A fantastic, if hair-raising, learning experience already, and I still need to format the print edition. (Was I trying to submit fixes to a handful of typos THREE SECONDS before Amazon locked the pre-order file? Mum’s the word.) My entry “Atomic Summer” has me up to my usual shenanigans, homage to campy/pulpy films of yesteryear, hot threesome with a telepath, anxiety about LLMs, you know the drill.

Absolute Filth: When You Only Have Time for the Good Stuff volume 1 is out on August 10th! And Volume 2 is out October 12th! These are edited by Olivia Lawless and Christian Pan from EC, and the focus is high-heat stories that cut to the chase. “Bank Job” appears in volume 1 (More group sex, no telepathy. Just a smidge of anti-capitalism, you know, for spice) and my entry for the second, BDSM-themed volume, is called “Erotic Re-direction and Training Services.” There just MAY be more volumes in this series TBA too… 👀

I just signed the contract, and the book is announced, so I think I can tease my appearance in Christian’s “Best Bi Erotica of the Year Volume 3”, which will be out September 23rd for Bi Visibility day! “Touchy Negotiations” is about a corporate headhunting trip that goes into territory the head of human resources should not approve… let alone participate in. You can catch up with volumes 1 and 2 in the meantime.

And there are still more projects I can’t talk about quite yet, including 2 winter seasonal stories, something fairy-tale-ish, and of course, a spooky little treat.

Can talk about but on the back burner for now: My very gay portal fantasy novella, “The Artificer, the Roué, & the Demon”; the horny clone book.

My Golden Pigtail award-winning story “Fuck the Rich” is featured in the extremely spiffy “Wicked Little Miracles” a collection of 18 of the best (they said it, not me) stories originally published by Exceptional Erotica.

I have three, count ‘em, three stories accepted for anthologies that I hope to announce soon, and pitches accepted for two more anthologies.

I’m also lightly curating Summer Teases 3 with my friends at the Erotica Consortium, and so far the announced list of contributors includes JK Mill, Christian Pan, Saddletramp1956, Ian D Smith and Scarlet Lee Winters.

Oh, and me. My novelette “Atomic Summer” is a loving tribute to classic B-movie scifi, with a UFO, monsters, and a MacGuffin. And is there telepathic sex? Yes, Virginia, there is telepathic sex.

And! We still have more contributors to announce for ST3.

And then, after all this anthology action settles down, I will be unleashing my novella The Artificer, The Roué, and the Demon. It’s another portal fantasy, and features a 900-year age gap. (waggles eyebrows suggestively)

Surprising me nearly as much as you, I have a new collection featuring the four monster-frolicking stories I published with Exceptional Erotica. You can get it directly from me at itch.io or, well, pretty much anywhere.

For the last 6 years (!) I’ve been publishing at Smashwords with an independent erotica publisher, and I’m pleased to announce I have a new publisher: me. I’ll have more direct control over art and e-book formatting and how I present myself and my author brand.

I’m officially hanging out the new shingle with the first four books to make it over from the old site. I’ll be adding more in the coming weeks, and figuring out how to handle some of the older pieces that don’t meet my current standards for quality.

On June 12 2023, a newspaper launched a word game, in which you have to group 16 words or phrases into the 4 correct categories.

“Connecting” plays a different game, in which the 16 words/phrases get used in a daily (if I can manage it) flash fiction piece.

I’m sticking to my lane: inclusive spec-fic erotica. Our setting is far future, in an asteroid belt.

(Maybe our asteroid belt; I haven’t quite decided yet.)

Miners in 1-person ships are looking for resources, like nickel, and water-ice, but mainly looking for fragmented or complete alien artifacts. Only a few have been found.

The miners interact through shared virtual reality experiences. Full-body VR suits can replicate visuals, sounds, and tactile sensations (they’re full-featured, hnh hnh hnh).

When “Connecting” begins, Af and Ko have been lovers in virtual space for a while.

 

(The newspaper seems, at present, dedicated to attacking trans and other vulnerable people, advancing the cause of authoritarianism over democracy, and insisting on false equivalencies in order to promote harmful outcomes, so I’ve removed references to its brand.)

“Polly” is a pen name, DUH. I write viewpoint characters of diverse sexual orientations and cultural backgrounds because I hate the assumption that smut is by default for the cis-het male gaze and by default centers white people unless it fetishes racial identity.

When I write characters with identities that differ from mine, I strive to do so respectfully. I’m happy to be called out when I get something wrong. I hope I’m learning (I wouldn’t write Chiyo and Sara the same way today, if I wrote that story at all). I am ownvoice gender “it’s-complicated.”
